PAT Testing Musical Equipment Edinburgh.

Updated: Apr 10, 2019

We have just provided PAT Testing to a customer who will be using their musical equipment this Saturday in an Edinburgh football stadium. Many venues that host live music, increasingly require that musicians using their own electrical equipment such as portable amps, speakers, IEC Leads and extensions have them tested regularly and supplied with a PAT certificate proving the test have been completed. This is normally recommended on an annual basis. This is a requirement to keep the musician safe and any of the public that may be in contact or close to the equipment not to mention the fire safety of the venue itself. Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. This involves the visual inspection of the appliance and cable for damage and also electrically testing the appliance. The electrical testing is usually carried out using a PAT testing machine or suitably approved device to measure parameters such as earth continuity, insulation resistance and in the case of IEC leads and Extension cables a polarity check.

In summary portable appliances testing is highly recommended for you and your bands safety and typically only costing around £50-£60 for an average bands equipment. Therefore it is a no brainer that you have your musical equipment or band equipment PAT tested.
