What is a PAT Testing?
A PAT testing is a routine inspection of electrical appliances to check they are safe to use. Its main purpose is to prevent electrical accidents in the workplace however landlords also carry these out on behalf of their tenants in their rental properties.
A full PAT test should include both a visual inspection and a more in-depth check using specialist PAT testing equipment. This test includes earth continuity, insulation resistance checks and lead polarity, .
Some appliances only need a reduced test, called a insulation test with them only being class two appliances.
Once the PAT test has been completed, every appliance should be marked passed or failed and a sticker applied to the appliance. Ideally there should be a record of the results also.
Not all electrical items need to be PAT tested and some only require a visual inspection.
Lothian Pat Testing Scotland are based in West Lothian and will travel anywhere within the central belt of Scotland to carry out PAT testing.
