Business PAT Testing Edinburgh

All Edinburgh and Lothian business owners and employers have a duty to prevent any harm coming to employees and customers whilst they are on your premises. One way you can ensure you comply with this is implementing regular PAT Testing.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, all employers are required to ensure that anything provided for work purposes is safe. The electricity at Work Regulations (1989) also state all electrical equipment that can cause injury is maintained in a safe condition. The easiest way to make sure your workplace complies with these regulations regarding electrical equipment is to have your workplace PAT Tested.

Failure to implement an ongoing programme of regular business PAT Testing may have implications regarding your insurance policy in the event of a related injury.

The person arranging your business PAT Testing in Edinburgh can vary from business to business. Most business PAT Testing in Edinburgh that we have carried out our contact has been the Office Manager, Admin / Receptionist or Health and Safety Manager. Whoever it is, this person would be known as the Duty Holder and would be our main contact whilst carrying out the PAT Testing and providing the documentation.

Although the industry standard for Business PAT Testing is 1 year. The IET Code of Practice doesn’t actually specify a duration. This is because different workplaces have different risk factors therefore they advise business PAT Testing intervals should be decided on a risk assessment approach. To be on the safe side we always recommend our customers to stick to the industry standard of 1 year for their Edinburgh PAT Testing. We have also found that this interval period is often the most requested by insurance companies too. With construction equipment we would advise testing more frequently and to discussed with the site Health & Safety Manager for their input regarding company policy.

Landlord PAT Testing Edinburgh

We are City & Guilds qualified In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment engineers making us the perfect company to carry out your Landlord PAT Testing in Edinburgh. All PAT certificates are supplied in electronic PDF format and issued the same day if required. The tenant or guest are entitled to see or have copies of the Landlord PAT Testing certs for their own records if requested.

The Repairing Standard, statutory guidance for private landlords section D.83 states the date for retesting appliances is usually set during the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (Also known as PAT). They also state this will usually be more frequent than five years and if the skilled person recommends more frequent checks then the landlord should take account of this and follow advice provided on frequency of inspection and testing. We mostly advise Landlord PAT Testing to be carried out annually. In our opinion waiting many years can be too long especially if items such as hairdryers, vacuum cleaners and irons are being used frequently. There is a high chance of this type of equipment being subject to damage in particular the cables or outer casing of the appliance. After all it is about keeping the guest or tenant safe whilst staying in your rental property. Therefore frequent testing is recommended.

We will PAT Test all Edinburgh Landlord equipment from white goods such as refrigerators and washing machines to brown goods such as televisions and DVD players. Even integrated kitchen appliances are tested not just portable ones.

Landlord PAT testing is often mistaking for an EICR however this is a completely different safety certificate. An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a thorough assessment of the rental properties electrical installation. It evaluates the safety and compliance of the electrical systems ensuring they meet the current standards. Although also a very important safety certificate this should be carried out by a fully qualified electrician and in general will cost more to perform and take more time to carry out.
